Matty is the mother of the "orthobabes". She is an inspiration for the orthopaedic surgeons as well for us, her collegues. She knows every thing about orthopaedics. And she is smiling for almost the whole day. We love her all.
I would like to nominate Konstantinos as Ansell HERO. He has been working for 16 years as a registered nurse in the Operating Theatre of Larnaca General Hospital in Cyprus. He is trustworthy, fair to his colleagues and partners and always kind with everyone he comes in touch with. He is always willing to help everyone in need and always with a smile and sense of humour tries to reduce patients' stress. For his colleagues he is always a valuable source of help. He co-operates effectively with his superiors and all the members of the surgical team and he is highly interested about new advances in surgical techniques and surgical technology. As an active member of Cyprus Operating Room Nurses Association (CORNA), he participates actively in congresses and seminars, making presentations about various subjects. Constantinos is a great loving and sincere personality. He always cares for the patients and his colleages. He never complains even when he works long hours and is short staffed. He is part of a team making protocols for the OR. These have improved patient safety and surgical staff safety in the OR. He specifically has taught us and is continually reminding us of the correct position of patients on the operating table. He has implemented a fire prevention protocol in the OR, including evacuation plans. This perioperative team felt much safer as a result. For the reasons above I feel he deserves the award.
Ainhoa deserves recognition for her commitment, discipline, enthusiasm, creativity, generosity and her capacity for work regarding the development of her colleagues' profession. She is one of the nurses who came up with the idea of creating "Kirozainbide", collaborating on its development for many years. She devotes a lot of her free time for the development of this project. She is currently in charge of training nursing students and newly incorporated perioperative nurses and is committed to teaching nursing students and the new nurses in the surgical area. She is also committed to improving the quality of nursing care in the surgical area. And she is willing to collaborate on the new projects of the organisation giving support to the superior and other members of the team. She is a hard working perioperative nurse. She is very passionate. She is always willing to help her colleagues. And, apart from her hard work, she is a sincere and loyal person. For all those reasons, I think she should be recognised.
Myriam is an OR nurse since more then 25 years. Working in cardiac surgery first as Head Nurse, she has gained strong experience as O.R. manager. She is currently President of AFISO and Vice-President of UGIB (Belgian national nurses association). Her investment at political, educational and managerial level is very effective and she has a high vision of our O.R. nursing job. She deals every day with colleagues, partners, physicians, companies and politicians to improve recognition for nursing, approaches to patient safety and quality of life for O.R. nurses.
Several people told me that Cindy is the prototype for a perfect OR-nurse. She is eager to learn and always willing to share her knowledge. She participates in the local OR-nurse organizations. At the moment she works in different ORs of our hospital group as OR nurse (she jumps in to help when colleagues are ill -- our A-team). To work temporarily in different ORs with different colleagues, surgeons, systems and methods means that she is very flexible and is a hero in managing stress for herself, patients and the surgical team. In this difficult job she is very well-accepted by all the team members of the different hospitals. Because we are a merging hospital group, we learn a lot about our organisation via Cindy. She helps us to grow in education, efficiency and quality. Cindy has a viral effect in a positive way on our colleagues.
Good knowledge of peri-operative care and protocols. Always questioning her skills and willing to learn. Always in a good mood and up for a practical joke. Just knowing she'll be my colleague for the day makes me smile.
He has the skills, expertise and experience to perform this job with excellence, shows interest for everything related to his work, and perfectly fits in the team. He's also the first certified registered nurse in ophthalmology by the American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses in Spain. Enrique not only does an excellent job as the responsible for OR support and management including supplies and manteinance, he's also an expert in Ophthalmic sterilisation and disinfection techniques, and the very best scrub nurse as well. He also has excellent communication skills. He's been the Vice-president of the Spanish Ophthalmic Nursing Association (SEEOF) and its Journal's Director for years. In addition, he's extremely organized, reliable and computer-literate. He's recently coordinated an ophthalmic Nursing textbook, being the author of some of its chapters. Enrique's performance and attitude have not only met the average standards, he's always vastly exceeded even my expectations.
She is my daughter, and I'm happy she is following in my footsteps by choosing OR nursing as an example. In my opinion, she belongs in the OR and she's doing better than her mommy.
Riikka is an exellent and highly experienced OR nurse in cardiac surgery, robotics and transplantation included. And she has extraordinary skills and patience for training younger colleagues :-).
Sandra is a role model for the nurses in training is continuously educating herself and others to go above and beyond in their job...
I want to nominate her because she is dedicated without any limit to her patients and to the atopy school. She gives her time with pleasure and efficacy and also always with a smile and with kindness.

Monique has been a dedicated OR nurse for over 40 years, 35 of which were spent as a Head Nurse. She was also the president of the VVOV (Flemish organisation of OR-nurses for many years and one of the founders 32 yeras ago. Thanks to her our organisation is one of the biggest professional nurses organisations in Belgium! Therefore she is our HERO!

He's able to deliver exceptional results working in a team, being an inspiration for the rest of the staff. He is continuosly educating himself and others. Founder of the Perioperative Italian society (POIS). Nurses' coordinator in the ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery) project.
I am the Professor of Surgery directing the minimally invasive surgery department of the University of Insubria in Varese, Italy. I have been working in Varese for many years and I travel worldwide to perform live surgeries in many parts of the globe. I have to say that I never found another scrub nurse like Ilaria. She is extremely professional, she knows every surgical procedure better than most of the surgeons and she can predict your needs without you have to ask. All the foreign surgeons that had the chance to work in or visit my OR have always been impressed by Ilaria, often asking to take her back with them. Finally, Ilaria is a great "teacher" for young nurses wishing to start this difficult job, and she is always available in case of difficult situations!
Sanne is a truly inspiring colleague at Sint Lucas hospital. She works hard hours and always delivers 200% of herself. Although she's still quite young, she knows exactly how to comfort the patients and show a lot of empathy inside and outside the OR.
Mateja Stare has everything of a nurse hero. Mateja is an active member of the international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Every year during two or three months of her own time she works on missions where she devotes herself to selflessly helping people. Mateja Stare with her inspiration and desire to help others in the world's poorest countries helped many patients to recovery and achieving a better quality of life. She is a fighter who sees her mission in aid to many within the MSF organisation. She goes above and beyond and in her job, is an inspiration to the rest of staff, the key to making things happen and a demanding environment, a role model for the nurses and training, admired and appreciated for the excellence she delivers, is continuously educating herself and others and is an excellent teacher and lecturer.
I work in an operating room of a hospital in Rome. My work takes place in particular for orthopedic surgery. I organize all the work of the session, identify orthopedic materials and tools, plan interventions together with orthopedic surgeon, order the materials, organize the operating room and work for the introduction of new hires. The work also takes place outside the operating room: encountering patients waiting to be operated on, getting to know their fears and their expectations.
Fernando is one of the most talented, dedicated and brilliant nurse professionals in the O.R.
Sandra just makes things happen. Now. And amazing positivity. She never seems to give up on us, always striving for whatever is best for OR nurses , therefore best for our patients. She is continuously educating herself and encouraging others, nurses and others, to educate themselves. She is an ideal role model. Committed and dedicated to perioperative nursing. Well educated and into continuous learning. She does over and above her role. She is an educator, clinician, patient and staff advocate. Excellent knowledge and practical ability. Continuously insists on quality care, safety and high standards. Superb perioperative nurse. She is an inspiration to perioperative nurses in Ireland and Europe, she is a role model for juniors and international colleagues. She is held in high esteem by colleagues, country association and EORNA Board for all her work and commitment. Sandra has worked in various hospitals throughout her career to date, and has brought her considerable knowledge and expertise to every one. She is exceptionally knowledgeable, maintains her knowledge, shares it and gives of herself in every situation to the benefit of patients, staff and the organisation. She is not afraid to stand up for what is right. She also works on behalf of Irish Perioperative nurses within the INMO (past chairperson) and is currently heavily involved in EORNA (both positions are voluntary). Patients and colleagues alike benefit from her dedication.
Rainer Wichmann, RN, completed his nursing training in 1985 at the Elisabeth Hospital in Essen, Germany in the central operation department. Early in his career, he worked in surgery, where he gained a broad expertise in acute medicine. During this time, Rainer was devoted to advancing knowledge in this area and served as a role model for his staff. His appearances as speaker in national congresses have secured him a position of leadership and respect in his field. Rainer has made a very significant contribution to the development of the role and education of O.R. nurses in Germany.
Julie has contributed to the national development of policy and guidelines regarding the role of the Surgical First Assistant and the Surgical Care Practitioner. This has assisted in the guidance of nurses across the U.K. in being able to deliver safe patient care. She works over and above her role as an operating room nurse. She is highly valued by her colleagues and all nurses she supports locally and nationally. She will be a very worthy recipient of this award.
Perché in sala operatoria è importate lavorare in "equipe".
A leading nurse in the O.R., she is also a great teacher. She has the passion to listen to her college and her students. She stands up for them as well when it is needed and guides them.
Four years ago I underwent a hysterectomy and Tomas was my CRNA. During the surgery I had a PCR and a lung collapsed. The anesthesiologist wasn't even in the hospital. Tomas saved my life! Since then he's my best friend!

She has worked tirelessly with the national Operating department association and with the European Operating Room Nurses Association. She constantly seeks to promote quality and safety in the OR for patients and staff. She continuously seeks to increase her level of self education. She both supports and delivers at educational events. She promotes the perioperative nurse at all opportunities and is a very present role model and inspiration for her own staff but also on the national and international perioperative nurse scene. She strives to uphold the best quality of care for patients in a challenging and demanding environment. She is an informed, dedicated, caring and compassionate perioperative Nurse. Liz without doubt goes over and above the call of duty on a regular basis. Liz is a totally dedicated perioperative nurse, who not only works full time in a very demanding role in theatres, combining both her clinical and managerial skills, and juggling family life, but also has spent many years working hard on behalf of Irish perioperative nurses with the INMO, and also with EORNA (both voluntary duties). Despite the pressures on her, Liz always manages to be supportive of both colleagues and patients, and is a true advocate. She always strives for the best standards for all.
She's a role model, an inspiration for nurses... I think that she's the best nurse that I know, for her professionality and for her work. She teaches me more but most of all she loves her job… and she's a great leader!
This person is my model as a Neurosurgery Scrub Nurse. I learned everything and the best of everything with her. She is a dedicated nurse, mom and wife and she does the best for those in her life. As a nurse, her skills are perfect and her knowledge is vast. I'm sure this knowledge will continue growing every day. She helped me to grow as a nurse and as a person and I will remember her words forever. I wish so many times that she were here to continue to teach me how to be the best -- how to be perfect. Without Susana I would never have the career opportunity that I have now. Yes, she is an inspiration for me and, I believe, for many more people that have the pleasure to work with her.
Completely engaged in her job for the patient's security and for quality. She is a positive leader for her staff and has a positive attitude and collaboration with the medical staff without fear of the "doctors".
Olivier has long worked to defend the perioperative nurse. He is very implicated in professional associations (AFISO, EORNA). He knows a lot about the guidelines to work correctly in the perioperative field. He has a lot of contacts all over the world inside the field. It is very important for the promotion of the Belgian perioperative nurses. He doesn't count his time for the profession. So it would be a good thing to recognise his great job for perioperative nurses !!

Eileen embodies everything I aspire to as a Theatre Nurse and as a human being. The patient is her prime focus and as our theatre manager she informs and assists us in delivering the best care possible. Our patients include Special Needs adults and children which presents its challenges. Eileen assists us in the delivery of care from pre admission assessment, safe delivery of care to discharge from our day unit. Eileen has serious personal challenges to deal with but I have never seen her let these affect her work and her dealings with her staff or her patients. She gives her full attention to everyone. The atmosphere in our unit is efficient, professional, supportive in any challenges, facilitation of education and supremely caring. I have worked in Theatres since 1981 and this is the only one I consistently look forward to going into and being part of-- a terrific team delivering excellent care thanks to our mentor, advisor and compassionate Eileen.
